Landscape Lighting
in Madison, WI
Low-voltage LED lighting for walkways, patios, walls and trees, so your yard keeps looking good after the sun goes down.
Your Yard Doesn't Have to Disappear at Sunset
Good lighting makes a walkway safer, shows off the stone and trees you already have, and gives a home real curb appeal at night. We plan it with your project, so the cable goes in before the pavers and wall caps do, not trenched through a finished yard later.
You pick the fixtures. Lighting is its own line on your estimate, and the fixture style, finish and placement are confirmed with you before anything is ordered.
Light the Parts of the Yard You Use
-
Paths & Steps
Low lights along walks and garden paths so every step is easy to see after dark, set back from the edge so shovels miss them.
-
Patios & Porches
Soft light around the places you sit, tucked under wall caps or along the edge so it never shines in anyone’s eyes.
-
Retaining Walls
Light washed across a stone wall shows off the texture and turns a slope into a feature of the yard.
-
Trees & Up-Lighting
Lights aimed up into a tree or across the front of the house add depth and curb appeal at night.
-
Garden Beds
A few small lights in a planting bed show off shrubs, grasses and boulders after the sun goes down.
-
The Front of the House
Light across the front of the home and its beds gives it curb appeal after dark and makes it easy to find.
The Same Yard, Lit Up
A dark front yard next to the same yard with its lights on.
What's in a Lighting System
- LED fixtures, chosen with you for style and finish
- Direct-burial low-voltage cable, run out of sight
- A transformer that plugs into an outdoor outlet
- A timer or dusk sensor, so the lights come on by themselves
Low voltage means 12-volt cable in the yard instead of house wiring, and LED fixtures use a fraction of the power older halogen lights did.
Plan It With Your Patio or Wall
The easiest time to add lighting is while the project is being built. A sleeve for the cable is laid under the base before the pavers go down, wall lights go in as the caps are set, and nothing gets dug up twice.
Already have a patio or wall you love? Most path lights, up-lights and bed lights can still be added to a finished yard. See our patios and pathways and retaining walls for the projects lighting pairs best with.
Common Questions
Can lighting be added to a patio or yard that is already finished?
Usually, yes. Path lights, up-lights and bed lights go in with a narrow slit for the cable, and the lawn closes back up. Lights built into a wall cap or a step are easiest while it is being built, so plan those with the project when you can.
Do I need an electrician?
Usually not. A low-voltage transformer plugs into an outdoor GFCI outlet. If there is no outlet where the transformer needs to go, an electrician adds one first, and we will tell you that at the estimate.
Do I get to choose the fixtures?
Yes. The fixture style, finish and where each light goes are gone over with you and confirmed before anything is ordered.
How much does landscape lighting cost?
It depends on how many lights, which fixtures you choose and how far the cable runs. Lighting is its own line on your estimate, so you can see exactly what it adds to the project.
Will the lights work through a Wisconsin winter?
Yes. The fixtures and direct-burial cable are made to stay outside all year, and with the short winter days the lights come on earlier and get more use.
